2009 - Ipswich Festival PDF Print E-mail

2009 Ipswich Festival Parade was going to be held in the school holidays, was that going to deter us, NO!  The school rallied on Saturday 18 April to once again participate in the Annual Parade.  This year saw our largest contigent with parents, sisters, brother and friends all marching as one "Ipswich West Special School".

Our students had been studying about space for the Semester and that was our underlying theme for the parade.  We had costumes of the different phases of the Moon, and astronuts (some costumes barely made it to the end of the parade).  We had students all dressed as stars, The Planets were a main focus of study for our older students and we also had some space cartoons of the Jetsons and Wall-e.

We were very fortunate to have one of our parents prepared to tow our float which was the Spaceship Axiom.

The students worked very hard all Semester on costumes with the help of Teachers and Teacher Aides and the day was well worth the effort with the crowds cheering us as we passed and all the students gaining in their confidence as they participated in this worthy community event.

We were very fortunate in receiving the award of "Best Community Entrant" and hopefully we will be able to participate again next year.
